DEPARTMENT OFFICERS 2009-2010
Our Convention is over and we have a new slate of officers:

- Junior Vice President is Joyce Froelick of the Brooklyn Valley Auxiliary 7790
- Chaplain is Virginia Livernoche of Thompson 10088
- Conductress is Patricia Hornok of Groton 1673
- Guard is Ruth Hewston of 9965 Yalesville
- Treasurer remains Patricia Rodriguez
- Secretary is Peg Beauregard
Fannie’s special project is Homeless Veterans and her theme is “Score the Perfect Game for Our Veterans and Their Families”. Her Commander is Bill Hornok of Edwin R. LaRoche VFW 1673 Groton and he has the same special project Homeless Veterans.
CONVENTION HIGHLIGHTS
The Mary Romano Exemplary award went to Patricia Rodriguez, Department Treasurer and Past Department President a member of the Montville VFW Ladies Auxiliary. President Debbie spoke of Pat’s dedication and her service to the VFW Auxiliary also the difficulty in keeping it a surprise. She was honored to accept the award.
The Love Gift recipient Ann Panteleakos was chosen by Immediate Past State President Debbie MacDonald because she`has long served the Auxiliary and given Debbie a lot of help, especially this year. She has gone above and beyond the call of duty. She is also our candidate for National Guard. Being chosen was quite a surprise to her. Ann accepted with tears. She thanked everyone for their generosity.
Our National Representative PNP Virginia Carman who was a pleasure to be around, we were so pleased to have had her with us. She seemed to enjoy her stay in Connecticut. She thanked us for our hospitality and thanked her Aide Helen Chippo. Virginia was here for an extra few days as she and Debbie are very good friends. She installed`our new President Fannie Muse.
The VFW National Representative was National Senior Vice Commander in Chief Tom Tradewell who was also great to be`with. He gave a wonderful speech at the Convention banquet. He installed the VFW Officers. Also at the banquet`was Public Relations honoree Al Terzi of CBS evening news. He spoke about his time in the military and everyone enjoyed his remarks.
The American flag will be presented at a later date to James Moran Athletic Director at East Lyme High School.
Awards were presented to the Community Service Volunteer of the Year Sophie Pauluskas a member of the New Britain Auxiliary by Virginia Livernoche.
Two of the Patriotic Art winners were present to accept their awards, they were, 2nd place Emma Fontaine representing Norwich 594 and 3rd place Cassandra Blanchette representing Plainfield Aux. 5446, the first place winner Basak Ekinici representing Putnam Aux 1523 was unable to attend as their car broke down while on their way to Convention.
We also had the Young Volunteer of the Year Alyssa Gaskin of the Prospect Junior Unit. The Junior Unit from Prospect was there for a presentation to State President Debbie.
HALL OF FLAGS
The American Legion will be hosting the July Fourth program at the Hall of Flags at 10 AM. Please join us in this annual Independence Day celebration. Please bring your colors if possible.
DEPARTMENT MEETING
Our first Department meeting will be held at the Stratford VFW. The theme will be a Patriotic, The Council of Administration meeting will begin at 11 AM, there will be a light lunch at a nominal fee and the Quarterly will start after lunch. Looking forward to seeing you there for the meeting.
