THANKS: We want to thank the Newington Post for hosting our fall meeting. It was our “Canines For Combat Veterans” meeting. We had guests John Moon and his dog “Rainbow” Bob Froelick put on a wonderful luncheon for us, and the money was designated for our finance program. Our next meeting will be in Montville on January 29 and President Joyce chose “Pooh Bear’s Birthday Party.”

CANCER AUCTION will be held on Saturday March 12, 2012 in Jewett City. Luncheon will be $10.00 per person. Chairman Carol Preston would like to remind you to bring an item for the Cancer Auction. It can be used but should be in good condition. The VFW has truly been helpful to us over the years, doing the auctioneering.

STATEWIDE ACTIVITIES: The Voice of Democracy/Youth Essay Dinner will be held January 22, 2012 at the New Britain VFW Post. Tickets are just $15.00 per person so we hope to see a great turnout for this event. We will also be recognizing the Teachers of the Year. The Department Bingo in memory of Mary Romano will be held Saturday February 18, 2012 at the West Hartford VFW Post Home. This will be a non-smoking Bingo. We hope to increase our participation in this event as the funds are split between the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary. There will also be Bingo on January 14 to support the State Commander’s special project Fisher House.

THANK YOU: Our State President would like to thank everyone who participated in the Testimonial for her and Commander Hewston. It was wonderful. Thanks also to all those who worked on the Gold Star Parents Luncheon especially Chairman Sharon Messenger and Co-chairman Kathy Fleishcauer and to the East Hampton Post & Auxiliary this is a very meaningful event. The entertainment was great, the speeches were very good and attendance was terrific.

As all of you know by now Ann Panteleakos was successful in her run for the office of National Guard in 2009. We need money for her homecoming so there were many fundraisers for her. They had a Wine Tasting Party in Montville, we also had the Black Tie Dinner Dance in Devon. Our next fundraiser is a Clam Chowder, Fritters Night at $10.00 or Beef Stew at $8.00 put on by the Norwich VFW on January 14, 2012 from 6 PM. To reserve tickets in advance call the Post 860-892-1400.

District 3 Testimonial Dinner will be Sunday, March 25, 2012, at VFW Post at 2 PM in Plainville. The District 2 Testimonial is February 25. District 5 will be Saturday March 10, 2012, District 4 Saturday March 24, 2012 in Jewett City.

April 24-26 we will be going to Atlantic city for a fund raiser for Ann please see details above.
