A message from
State President
Virgina Livernoche
Thank you for visiting the Department of Connecticut VFW Ladies Auxiliary Website.
I am humbled as I accept the awesome challenge of leadership as President of the great Department of Connecticut.
My theme for the coming year is "Working Together to Make a Difference" and for my symbol I have selected the honeybee. In nature, I can think of no symbol of working together to accomplish a goal greater than the bee.
We need to keep our focus of the true objectives of our organization which is fraternal, patriotic, historical and educational. We are losing members and entire Auxiliaries at an alarming rate. If we are to survive, we need to get back in touch with our membership. We cannot forget the dedicated ladies in local Auxiliaries - those who volunteer and seek no fanfare - we can't forget that they are as important as our elected officers.
We need to treat all members with kindness, courtesy and respect and take the time to answer a question or concern. We must be less critical and more helpful. If we want to attract new members, the impression they receive needs to be of a group working together and getting along with each other. Once they sign up, we can't ignore them - we need to mentor them - to explain what it is we do
We are at a crossroads now with changes being proposed that will affect the future of the Auxiliary. We must prepare to meet these challenges. With my theme of working together and National President Leanne Lemley's theme of "Serving from the Heart for our Veterans" we can surely make a difference.
In unity there is strength and the satisfaction of a job well done is the best award we can receive.
I truly look forward to begin building a positive course of action that will strengthen our organization and increase the membership, so we can continue the services and help we provide to our deployed service members, our valued Veterans and our communities.
For their service to us, they deserve nothing less.
WE DIDN’T MAKE OUR MEMBERSHIP GOAL We needed to make 93% in order to have our President make her Night on the Town and we did not reach that goal. This is the first time we haven’t met that goal in a long time. Now it is time to concentrate on our next membership goal. If we get 96% by March 31 the department will receive $500.00. The amount will increase by $500 for each percent above that with the final goal of 100% by the March 31 date for $2,500.00.
Our Quarterly meeting was held at the East Hampton VFW post home in East Hampton on Sunday, January 27, 2013. The theme was “Celebrating Our Members”. Veterans and Family Support Chairman Kathie Fleischauer had a contest for the poppy favors. The favors are distributed to the hospitals after the meeting.
CANCER AUCTION
The auction will be held on Sunday March 10, 2013 in Plainville. Brunch will be served at
12:00 Noon and the auction will follow. It is still only $12.00 per person.
Don’t forget we can use items for the auction, preferably new items or used but in good condition. Baked goods are really successful.
LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE
The Conference will be March 1st through 6th, 2013 and our State President Virginia
and State Commander John will be escorting our Department Voice of Democracy
winner at the awards ceremony.
VOD AND PATRIOT PEN WINNERS:
The Voice of Democracy winner was Gabrelle Procko from Wolcott in District 2 and the Patriot Pen winner was Maya Christianson from Ridgefield in District 1. First Time Chairman, PSC Richard Difederico did a great job as Chairman and there was a very good turnout.
